What the shell adds, and what it costs

The outer shell of the whole hemp seed is fibrous and slightly bitter. Keeping it on roughly triples the fibre of a serving, from about 1.2 grams in hulled hearts to around 4 grams in whole seed, and adds a satisfying crunch. The cost is palatability: whole hemp seed is noticeably crunchier and more bitter, and the shell can catch in the teeth.
